Ephemera
a collection of temporary lighting artefacts
Ephemera was developed with Richard Greenacre and Mechelle Shooter for IM-PERMANENT as part of NGV Melbourne Design Week 2023.
Creating a lighting collection to last no longer than design week, Ephemera recruits Volker Haug lighting stock as building blocks to produce temporary lighting artefact. Creating moulds from the parts themselves, each piece was designed with the material journey in mind, navigating active use, reuse and new-life relationships. Ephemera explores how multi-material artefact can exist in the biomaterial age, allowing long-life objects to hold many roles throughout their lives. Each piece, Arbor and Cone, were designed to investigate the pairing of living and non-living material.
Growing mycelium directly on a raw brass surface, Arbor is a celebration of the mycelium/brass interface.
Exploring the diffusive surfaces of mycelium, Cone pairs conical brass elements with moulded mycelium.
