Mycelium Matters was developed by Emma Luke, Judith Glover, Josh Riesel, Gyungju Chyon, Tien Huynh, Alia Parker, and Vivien Timmers to be exhibited as part of IM-PERMANENT at Melbourne Design Week 2023.

What is mycelium? Why is it important? And how can it help us with the environmental conundrum that we are in? Mycelium Matters charts the journey of mycelium from a novel biomaterial in the lab, with fire-resistant and soundproofing qualities, to a myriad of emerging applications, including in lighting, building, fashion, furniture, packaging, textiles and waste disposal. 

Key makers, scientists and practitioners share their experiences of working with mycelium, as well as their hopes for its future role in transitioning towards a circular economy.
